How do I qualify for the gifted Program?
The first step in qualifying for the gifted program is to request a Gifted Screening. If your child is at a school with a gifted program, the screening process begins with a written request to your Gifted Site Coordinator. For students at other schools in the East Baton Rouge Parish School System the written request will be submitted to your guidance counselor. If your child attends a school outside of the East Baton Rouge Parish School System, or is not yet enrolled in school, contact Pupil Appraisal Services at 225-929-8600 to request a screening.
Students who meet screening requirements are then referred to Pupil Appraisal Services for the full gifted evaluation or may opt to delay the evaluation while participating in the two-year Scholastic Academy Program. For those in Scholastic Academy, the gifted evaluation is administered by East Baton Rouge Pupils Appraisal Services during the student’s second year of the program to determine if they meet the state criteria for the Gifted exceptionality. Students who qualify as gifted can continue in the Gifted program through high school.
